Doppelgangers, 2002
Performance-based photography
8 photos (60 x 80cm) & 4 photos (30 x 45cm).
Based on the Toronto phone book, people with names that were identical both in first and last, and only those that occurred twice were chosen. These unique pairs were then invited to meet and to be photographed together.
Four photographs of the Toronto telephone book hang opposite. The unique pairs of Doppelgangers are circled and pencil notes of the various telephone conversations had with the Doppelgangers are written on the wall. The notes record reason for not coming, not wanting to participate, cancellations, concerns, questions and a few eager participants.
